SüdsteiermarkSauvignon Blanc Ried Zieregg "XT" GSTK 2015

Ried ZIEREGG has been our home and place of work for generations. We grew up here. So did the vines. Our mountain, the Zieregg, has revealed the heights of our philosophy over the past decades. We have gained many insights and the more details we have recognised and worked out, the more multifaceted the Zieregg has presented itself to us.

The path led from the individual plot development and “parcel collection” to the 4 Zieregg crus “Zieregg for future” presented for the first time with the 2020 vintage: Steilriegel, Kår, Kapelle and the historic heart of Zieregg. With the 2015 vintage at the latest, we recognised that this historic and original part has an extraordinary independence with outstanding ageing potential. For this reason, some part of the 2015 harvest of the historic Zieregg vineyard remained in the barrel will be bottled this May with the addition "XT" after more than 8 years of barrel maturation. "XT" stands for "extra time - extra terroir - extra Tement". In short: a wine matured to perfection for us.

What does this mean for the future? From 2024, the current Zieregg vineyards Kår (Sauvignon), Kapelle (Sauvignon) and Steilriegel (Morillon) will appear on the price list with at least 30 months of ageing and will be complemented by the longer aged Sauvignon Zieregg "XT". This year it will be the 2015 vintage.

The subsequent vintages 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 are waiting in barrels to be bottled at the right time. The 2021 Ried Zieregg vintage is then expected to be bottled in 2029 with perfect drinking maturity. Again with the addition “XT”.

What does this mean for the vintages that are already on the market? The bottle-aged Zieregg Sauvignon vintages that already exist on the market includes the entire Zieregg (Zieregg Kår, Zieregg Kapelle & historical part of Zieregg). It is therefore a different Zieregg "Cuvée". The addition "XT" will emphasise the independent appearance so that there is a clear distinction between the barrel-matured Zieregg Sauvignon and the already existing bottle-matured Zieregg Sauvignon.

Will the Zieregg Reserves "IZ" and "Vinothek Reserve" still be available? Of course. These wines will retain their familiar look (brown label). As before, these wines will only be released in vintages that allow us to vinify these special reserves.
