Description
The Sauvignon blanc vines have been rooted in the vineyard at the castle for more than 30 years. Old vines, small berries, sparse fruit and concentrated aromas, that is the requirement profile of our winemaker Katharina. A site wine with a lot of potential, spontaneously fermented with lasting yeast contact. The wine has charm and length and asks for time to mature in the bottle.

Vineyard: vom Schloss
In the upper part of the vineyard from the castle in Maierhofbergen you have one of the most beautiful views in the region towards Riegersburg. The orientation of the vineyard, located at around 350 m above sea level, is towards the west with a slight slope to the south; the slope starts at around 30% in the upper area and becomes flatter towards the lower part of the vineyard. The soil is largely characterized by basalt gravel. Here you are in the gravel of the East Styrian Basin, which consists of sediments from the mountains to the north that were washed here by erosion around 5 million years ago in the shallowing ancient sea. The diversity of the gravel can be explained by the diversity of the alluvial rubble material in the mountains to the north of THALLER. In the lower part of the location you can find more Opok. The age of the vines is up to 35 years
Vinification
The wine would be spontaneously fermented in wooden barrels and matured on the full yeast in small wooden barrels for 1 year. After a year of bottle maturity, our Riedenwein goes on sale.
